South African Lipizzaners
April 1 - 5, 2010
If horses could be ballerinas that's what the South African Lipizzaners would be. They are everything you would expect from ballerinas - elegant, graceful and dignified - and they love performing.
The SA Lipizzaner shows at the Rand Show 2010 will include the world-famous “Tribute to the Horse” and a Pas de Deux with two horses performing an intricate display in a mirror im-age of each other.
The Lipizzaners will also perform traditional movements which were once used in warfare, and which today are used in dressage. They’ll be astounding Rand Show 2010 visitors with their power and agility in a performance of the "Airs Above the Ground", the spectacular leaps which horsemen once used to defend themselves in battle. These “Airs” will include a solo performance of the Levade, where the stallion demonstrates his strength and balance by rearing up at a 45-degree angle while staying low on his haunches (the lower the Levade, the more difficult it is to execute).
Another “Air” is the Capriole, a remarkable show of strength and co-ordination that can take years of training to perfect. The stallions will jump with all four feet high into the air, and then kick out their hind legs at the top of their leap.
There is also the Courbette, a move where the stallion raises himself on his haunches and then leaps forward while still crouched, doing several of these jumps in succession.
These beautiful horses will then perform the breathtaking final Quadrille, the Ballet of the White Stallions, a graceful equine ballet of four-footed white dancers.

And now, the SACA is bringing the gastronomic genius of some of the country’s greatest chefs to the Rand Show 2010, to present a gourmet Food Theatre experience for visitors.

Visitors to the Food Theatre will also be able to sample tasters of the prepared dishes, which is always a firm favourite with show-goers.
