Tennis South Africa Partners With Vodacom For Its Inaugural Beach Tennis Tournament

Tennis South Africa (TSA), in partnership with mobile network giant Vodacom, is bringing the first Beach Tennis Tournament to South Africa. Tennis enthusiasts are invited to partake in the mini tournament, which will be held in the Sports Hall at the Rand Show from Saturday 31 March to Tuesday 3 April 2018.

Winners from both the men’s and women’s divisions of the tournament will get to represent South Africa at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Beach Tennis Championships in Russia in August 2018.There is also R15 000.00 in prize money up for grabs.

The tournament will be an open qualifier, which means anyone is eligible to play regardless of age.

“Beach Tennis is new to South Africa, and 2018 is the first time that South Africa will be hosting it at the Rand Show,” said Iain Smith, technical manager of TSA.

“Beach tennis is both a competitive sport and a family sport for those who just want a good, relaxing and fun time,” Smith added.

Tennis champion and brand ambassador for the tournament, Tucker Vorster, will be in attendance for all four days and will be cheering on contestants.

Keeping with the spirit of family and fun, 30 children from Arthur Ashe Tennis Club in Soweto will be invited for an open practice day before the commencement of the tournament, and to be the first young generation in South Africa to experience beach tennis. This is part of TSI’s corporate social initiative to help uplift the local community through sports.

The event will be live streamed through Vodacom and TSA’s digital platforms to reach a wider audience beyond the event. The link for the sites will be shared by Vodacom on the days of the event so that fans can login on Vodacom live and stay abreast of all the matches.
